Dear colleagues, I have re-posted this ad as it was in a dead topic. We have been successful in raising funds to subsidise a summer league at the Lilian Baylis Old School, Lollard Street, SE11. The nearest station is Elephant & Castle, or Kennington. We have been granted the funding because the players/teams and officials are registered with England Basketball. The league has set up a fund to assist those teams to pay for their registrations. We are in the second week of competition, which has registered 80 individuals.
So far, the league will cost £70 (or fully/partialy subsidised, please contact us for more information), to play 7 Saturdays. Please check the website for conditions and handbook (www.freewebs.com/londonbasketball/).
Any Filipino group is welcome. All you need 5 players, and you can come and play. It's an informal league, but there will be referees, table officials and awards.
We are working on a short cup competition (2/3 Sundays) in August.
For those players, probably the younger ones, who look forward to playing against tougher opponents should take a look at this and consider joining or forming a team. The next season will be interesting as it is bound to attract good players from different nationalities. Spanish and French ballers are not bad.

Thanks for your comments Editor! We have finished our league quite successfully. We had 140 players and played basketball Saturdays and Sundays, and the cost was subsidised by the League. We raised funds to pay for the players' registrations (£12 each player), referees' and table officials' fees and court hire.
We have our AGM next month, when we will present the awards. All the committee will resign and those who want to stand for election must be voted adn aproved by the participants (each team 1 vote). The Treasure will present the accounts, explaining where the money comes from and how we spent it. Referees and table officials were appointed from a pool of qualified officials; referees are human and make mistakes, but it's difficult to keep a professional pool of referees if you only have 4/5 to choose from. We had 15, and those who were late, were unfit or simply poorly trained were given appropriate advice and support by our Technical Secretary.
There were Filipino players and referees, who had their registration subsidised. There were other nationalities (South Americans, Eastern Europeans, British, etc.). However, we are a basketball league open to everybody.
We have secured some funding to send coaches to a course (sponsored by the Women's Sport Foundation), and members of the committee/coaches, to a Child Protection course.
Hello players, just a reminder that KAMPI season finishes before Dec and this league starts then, so for continuity, I advise you guys to enter this league. I wonder if Mike and Jun will be interested? I know Joey and Bing will be, they're basketball addicks!!! Pass the word...
