Philippine grown talent v.s. UK filipino grown talent

"They used to say that boys that learned to play basketball in the UK are not as good as those that grew up playing in RP. Well, I think we are wrong. Most players from Sunics, Kings, Snipers and Controllers grew up in London and they are playing together as a team."

To be honest - I agree with the comment above BUT there is one major point we have to consider...How many "pure" UK filipino grown players/teams are there to have been crowned champions in the history of KAMPI? Answer: NONE...Pinoy Sunics have been the closest to the crown but still, the team does not consist of a pure UK grown players.

But the POINT I am really trying to make is that, us UK Filipino grown players are seen as less favourable in the eyes of KAMPI. There has been a consistent pattern in who KAMPI favour to win their championships based on the past champions (Yaphi, Tikboyz, BC Catering,Basildon, Epsom – All have been teams with Philippine Grown players.

Take for example - Kings v.s. Epsom yesterday - To KAMPI, I’m sure they would have hated it to be a Kings v.s. Sunics Finals – Although for us that would have been a breakthrough for English Filipino Talent, to them I think they would have been less enthusiastic about it especially cos they want Epsom to win the “3-peat” Grand slam to boost the credibility of Kampi having ex PBA/Professional players winning their league.

So I think as much as we English Filipino players/teams strive to play with heart and determination in order to fight for championships year after year – until KAMPI change their dinosaur age, old fashioned mentality and culture – WE WILL GET NOWHERE…

Still… A very good luck to our friends PINOY SUNICS who I know will give all they have to win the title this coming Sunday and for the first time, make history… Good Luck lads. But I wont be surprised if KAMPI steal the title in favour of the Philippine grown team Epsom – or in other words – The F.O.B’s. With all due respect - Epsom are an excellent team..But so are Sunics...

Lots of very valid points dark_knight.

Without talking anything away from Get Smart's win on Sunday I must agree that your Team is good enuff not need any help from the refs or officals however I feel that most of the calls were going your way.

We had many missed foul calls (with video evidence) and many weak calls going against us. Rowland was fouled out very early and for a player who rarely ever fouls out (not once this season) he seem to be the no.1 target.

This is honestly NOT sour grapes on our part as the best team won on the day (But it's 1-1 for the season...lol)

Speaking to Bing who wished us luck before the game a KINGS-SUNICS finals would of been a very clean, high tempo, end-to-end game show casing modern basketball played with heart by UK Philly talent.

ANYWAYZ GOOD LUCK in the FINALS GUYS...!!!

I can see it already. Bravo getting into foul trouble and a technical, cos he won't be able to handle being man marked by Ordona...rahh rahhh rahhhhh!!!

Don't kid yourself about the KAMPI being biased. The Epsom players are and previous champions were not kids. They are experienced players when they won their titles. As Kings and Sunics are becoming. Maturity, physically, mentality and emotionally come into play. You don't agree? We'll go watch Sunday's match and tell me what you think after.

Comparison

Average age:Sunics - 20+  Epsom 30+

Playing experience : Sunics - Balaam Park, Streetball..etc  Epsom - shool bball team, high school bball team, university bball team, Amateur or pro bball league

At the end of the day: BILOG PA RIN ANG BOLA!!!!!!!

Good points MLTR.

We (KINGS) are very happy to get this far this season which has been our best to date and hope to only get better in years to come.

However as for the Sunics, they have got to the finals on two previous occasions and only lost by 1 point. They constantly get very deep into this competition making finals, semi finals, etc... And from my memory never failed to make the playoffs.

They play a different style of exciting basketball and have grown and matured as a team of friends. And for a team without a player over 6 foot can give and any team a run for their money.

Hopefully this could be their year, I like many other people will be watchin on Sunday to hopefully see a good game without the usual controversial calls.

I will be very shocked if Kings did not make it to the semi-finals of the PSUK. And Tailblazers in ELSA. These 2 teams consist mainly of young UK born or grown up. Kings only lost due to inexperienced PG's that should have wrapped up their game against Rosewood. Kings were so rampant. Morris for example, a shot block,  a rebound then ran to finish the transition!!! WOW!!! And their new player really is gaining recognition from being an all-rounder. Typical OZI.

Tailblazers even without Vidad are still blazing their opponents with their fast paced game and J Dela Cruz' sweet jumper...reminds me of me when I was confident about my jumpers....hmmm

I wonder when an invitational will happen when a one-day league that only involves players under 21? So we can see who are the upcoming stars..

If only I can come up with a sponsor...shoutbox.gif

Thanks for the props Ed,

The team is young and has gone through many changes, its has been many years in the coming but I feel we now have team with a good mixture of talent. Rowland is a big player for us but the younger players can only get better and mature their mature.

If our powerhouse Ralph could be healthy and make more games that would also help our cause but the bottom line is we all love the game and try to play every game with heart and intensity.

I try to motivate the team and they usually give me all they got.

Last games agains Rosewood has high paced and intense and I think with a bit more experience and less turnovers we may of just had them.

But you can only live n learn and hopefully get better in the process.

There are lots of new young teams up n coming and I think Controllers will be one to watch for.

Hopefully more people can come and watch the PSUK leauge and see what teams have to offer....!!!!

Peace.

to tell the truth, i dont feel rosewood played againist us properly, firstly they didnt have a full squad in the actual game, also i can tell they were not going all out on us becuase if they did the gap in the score would have been much bigger. i can prove this to you caz kuya boy playd and jojo playd as well who dont really play alot in games. it was jus clark and angel killing us on the back passes alll day really they also didnt play full court press on us at half time which they normally do every game. also becuase we are not a greedy team we tend to pass alot going to the hoop and lose confidence in putting up the ball. but that will all change very soon i promise eveeryone in here that.

i really hope ralph comes back soon caz we need more meat in the back 3!
