Controllers forge another victory
Sep 30th 2007 I Crison Controllers 80 - 70 Kampay

The Controllers were able to hang around the veteran Capistrano-led Kampay squad to record possibly their highest profile victory of their reign in the Filipino tournaments. The Controllers got an all-around effort where every active player on the roster managed to get some burn as they recorded a 80-70 victory.

The Controllers opted for another changeup to the starting line up with Delfin Manolos and Clive Castillo once again starting alongside Banj Abeleda, Chris East and Justice Cacho. The Controllers were already boosted by the absence of Kampay's energetic forward Jojo Sy so the focus was to stop guard-forward Joey Capistrano.

Clive Castillo and Ryan Abeleda carried Controllers in the first few edgy minutes. Castillo showed his 14 point performance the week before was no off as he contiuned to drill shots at Kampay in the first half. Chris East and Banj Abeleda, the usual scoring duo felled to find their stroke in the 1st half.

Capistrano struggled to find his feet in the first half, so the scoring laod of Kampay fell on the shoulders of PSUK Finals MVP Danny Atienza. His sneaky offensive skills kept Kampay in the game by half-time. Controllers led by 4 points at half-time.

The second half was more fast paced. Both teams wanted to win as at both ends of the court, players were exchanging points. On going viewers expected a Kampay win, and was feeling positive when Kampay guard Joey Capistrano started to get going.

Banj Abeleda finally got his break and after a low shooting percentage in the first-half, started getting going. His two strong moves to the basket resulted in two vital 3 point plays back to back late in the second half. As the teams drew close, a Chris East jumper, a Castillo teardrop and hook, and a Kareem type hook from Ryan Abeleda from the left-side baseline was enough to give Crison Controllers a historic win.

Banj Abeleda despite his poor shooting in the 1st half, scored a impressive team high of 22 points. Castillo followed behind Banj with 16 points, most being mid-range jumpers. Ryan Abeleda and Chris East had a strong double-double performance in poitns and rebounds.

Captain Ryan Abeleda spoke of Castillos shooting performance, "Clive is a pure example of the depth in our team. Hes getting open, and hes knocking down his shots."

Crison Controllers now have the joint best record in the league by only losing one game. They face Euston in two weeks. Euston a team which has been struggling in the Premier Liga of KAMPI, have also failed to win a game this season despite having a impressive rookie season last year.
